Vulgate

Latin. ‘Common’. A 4th century Latin version of the Bible, at that time the dominant language spoken in the Roman Empire. It is largely composed by Eusebius Hieronymus, who was commissioned for this task in 382 AD by Pope Damasus I and which took him 20 years to complete. It became the official Latin version of the Bible of the Roman Catholic Church.
